The short answer is “Yes” (but with certain exceptions). According to Article 1250/1983 of the Greek Civil Code, residents of large cities are obligated to have their wedding announcements printed. The question, however, is:
- What is the definition of “large city”?
A large city is a region with a population over 10,000. So, if you live in a region with a population over 10,000, you must have your wedding announcement printed. Announcements must only be placed in daily newspapers (i.e. newspapers that circulate daily). However, not all local newspapers are daily!
For this reason, it would be best to ask the person who will be checking your documents as to which newspaper best suits your purposes, as each individual seems to interpret the law differently.
